After I read about linguistic mode of communication, I started to notice some word choices and phrases are very important in writings. For example, the critique about FIFA Ballon D'or was on the blog post from one of my favorite soccer cleats blog. It criticizes how the two masters of ceremony ran the event. I have noticed the word "middle school banter" from the post and it effectively conveyed the criticism toward the host's skills of processing the event. I was not able to find the gender pronouns, but most of the word choices conveyed image of male athletes because the blog is for male soccer cleats. I have changed some of the words to other words so that they would convey the feminine image. For example, I chaged the word "hard and strong" to weak. It completely has changed the message of the post. The post was a review for a new male soccer cleats, and , after the change, it criticized the cleats for its weakness. Therefore the word choice and phrasing plays a important role in conveying the message that speaker or writer intends to convey.

I see a lot of difference in those two Twitter profiles: back grounds, people who are twitting on the website, and the profile picture. They did not really helped me understanding the person behind the profiles. But they gave me some clues to assume their personality. I could assume that Jenny Shappard is very out going person and very lively. A lot of other people's post on the wall and the green color of the back ground allows me to assume that Jenny is out going person. On the other hand, I assumed that Kristin is not really a socially confident person. She put a picture of panda for her profile picture instead of her real picture.

In this video, I heard a lot of aural modal elements. Especially the background music has effectively produced the mystic atmosphere. The music is so slow and quiet that it gives magical and creative setting. The tone would have changed a lot if a country song were playing in the background. It would ineffectively convey the message that the video intended to deliver. It might turn into a satirical video because the content of the video contradicts the atmosphere that back ground music conveys.

When I visited my favorite website, which is SoccerCleats101.com, my eyes were drawn to the center. At the center of the page, a lot of newly released soccer cleats are advertised. As a soccer cleats collator, I was drawn to those advertisements. Also if one comes up, it fades away and another advertisement comes up. I was easily able to receive the information in it. If it were swapped with the information at the bottom, I would not use the website because it would show the old cleats instead of newly released cleats that I want to buy.

President Obama effectively uses his hand gesture in his second inaugural address. Particularly, when he delivers words like the firmness and gathering, he gathers his hands together every single time he mentions about strength and firmness. This gives the deeper understanding of his speech because his hand gesture effectively delivers the full meaning of the content and the gesture gives the visual understanding of the words. On the other hand, Condoleezza Rice, Us secretary of state under George W. Bush, barely uses here hand gesture while giving her speech. But when she uses it, she uses it to emphasize her message. Obama constantly gestures and give full understanding of the word, but Condoleezza gestures to emphasize her message.

Last semester, I had to work in a group project with people i have never seen before. It was a Health class, which every freshman has to take. I highly doubted that we are going to work together well. But, as we gathered together as many as possible, we got closer and were able to collaborate very well for the health project. I believe that getting close to each member is very important in group project. Getting to know each other not only brought us closer but also led to successful group project. In group work, each member should understand and know each other's background or culture so that they can prevent offending each other by ignorantly saying something offensive to others. Also they should have willingness to work. If members are not willing to work together, others would be affected by it and wont be able to do the group work effectively.

I looked up for Sony Corporation Vs. Universal City Studio case. In this case, fair use was upheld. Since Sony was producing recording machines and other devices that might infringe, Universal City Studio sued the Sony Corporation. But the court decided that it was fair use because it was noncommercial and nonprofit. On the other hand, Case of American Geophysical Union v. Texaco Incorporation was not upheld for fair use. The reasons were that the purpose of the research of Texaco was conducted commercial gain. Therefore it was against fair use.
I think Attribution would work best to my multi modal project. Since it only needs to credit, it can be used to make other derivataive works or display. Also Noncommercial would work too. Since my multi modal project would be noncommercial, NC would work fine.

The opening of the movie “Rock Rock Rock” was introductions of actors and actresses who appear in the movie. It effectively uses music and pictures of actors to credit them for making film. It shows their names of actors, actresses, directors and other staffs. In my project, I am not going to start with the crediting. I am going to give credits to other people’s original work at the end of the project. It will basically show the citations flowing up like the ending of the movie.
